Commercial Construction Estimator

Job Information:

JOB DUTIES:

Review project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work and required materials for resilient, carpet, and hard surface flooring projects. Determine the quantity and type of materials required for each project, including tile, carpet, LVT, sheet vinyl, and others. Prepare and provide accurate and detailed cost estimates for each flooring and tiling project, including labor, materials, and equipment. Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that estimates are comprehensive and accurate. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues on the front end of the project. Confer with architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Ensure that each project is completed on time and within budget, and provide ongoing support and advice to project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding the cost and feasibility of flooring and tiling projects adhering to industry standards. Analyze construction documents to prepare time, cost, materials, labor estimates and installation techniques. Compile historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products using VBA programming in Excel and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Develop and maintain a Macro Enabled Excel spreadsheet for the company to automate and streamline the estimating process. Create and maintain a database of material costs and supplier information to ensure that estimates are up-to-date and reflective of market trends. Monitor project costs and quantities throughout the duration of each project, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or potential overruns. Prepare and provide detailed and accurate shop drawings by utilizing Measure Square and AutoCAD, Computer Aided Design software for providing directions to field installers. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors. Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to reduce cost. Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or its equivalent and 3 years of work experience in resilient, carpet, and hard surface flooring including installation techniques, preparing estimates, and industry standards. Work experience should include 2 years of work using computer-aided design AutoCAD software, VBA programming in Excel, and Measure Square.
